About Nick Haigh

I am a wildlife photographer with over twenty years of photography experience. Originally from the UK, I became immersed in nature and wildlife from a very young age, and having moved to West Cork in Ireland, I have further honed my photography skills. My passion lies in capturing and documenting wild animals, driven by a deep fascination with nature, evolution, and behavior. I seek to shed light on the intricacies of biodiversity, having recognized its significance in the face of evident climate change. The time I have spent studying flora and fauna in their natural habitat underscores the urgent need to protect our planet for future generations. Wildlife photography is indeed a challenging endeavor. Mastering the nuances of different seasons, interpreting animal behavior accurately, and ensuring that the subject remains undisturbed by your presence are tasks that require patience, skill, and a deep understanding of the natural world. The unpredictability of wildlife adds another layer of complexity to the already intricate process of capturing stunning images. Despite the difficulties, the fulfilling moments of capturing a perfect shot make all the challenges worthwhile. I just love being out and about with my camera and getting back to my laptop afterwards to see what I have captured on my camera!

My wife Ann and I share a deep connection to nature, albeit through different lenses - mine mostly through the skies, filled with birds of prey or swallows, while she looks into the intricate world of small creatures within rock pools or under logs. I also have a passion for fly fishing and this not only provides a means of immersion in the natural world but also serves as a balancing act with my photography pursuits. The yearning to have a camera in one hand and a rod in the other encapsulates my unwavering dedication to both interests. With three boys to share these experiences with, my family leads a life intertwined with the rhythms of the wilderness, creating memories filled with serenity and adventure.

Red Fox (vulpes vulpes)

Sedge Warbler (acrocephalus schoenobaenus)

With this website I hope to showcase a diverse range of subjects, capturing the beauty of biodiversity. From the serene landscapes of West Cork to the rugged islands of Ireland, my lens will always be focused on the wonders of nature. Kingfishers, birds of prey, foxes, and hares are among my favorite subjects, with each moment frozen in time through my photography. Whether I'm on the riverbank or on the cliffs of the Wild Atlantic Way, i aim to encapsulate the essence of the natural world in every shot i take.
